Engineers at HERWIT have been planning and designing electrical cogeneration systems utilizing digester gas for over 12 years.  Mr. Harris has planned and designed over 3 megawatts of cogeneration systems and retrofitted other existing systems.  He has also authored a paper on scrubbing digester gas using water only and presented this paper at a National Wastewater Conference.

The facilities designs have included all ancillary systems such as:

  • Heat recovery systems (steam and hot water)

  • Floating Piston gas storage systems

  • Flexible Membrane gas storage systems

  • Fixed Cover gas storage systems

  • Regenerative Gas blowers

  • Enclosed Stainless Steel gas blowers

  • Piston gas compressor systems

  • Sliding vane gas compressor systems

  • Gas Flares

  • Sulfur control facilities

  • Gas optimization and control systems

  • Standby Generator interface controls

  • Electrical Parallel Bus system controls

Work performed includes:

  • Air Permitting

  • Electric Utility rate negotiations

  • Feasibility studies

  • Energy Audits of existing treatment plants

  • Diagnostic trouble shooting of existing systems

  • Conversion of existing systems to lower emissions standards

  • Integration of engines with process blowers systems

  • Construction management

  • System start up and debugging
